Well, all right, but only because your refusal to waste time on anything so frivolous as polysyllables is so endearing.

1. Take one group of very powerful people, create another whose abilities are meant to oppose theirs, then lock them in the same space for a thousand years. Oh, be sure to teach them to hate and fear one another at the same time! After that just ...wait, I suppose. You'll get a war sooner or later.

2. Magic. Pointy things. Anything you could get your hands on, if you were unlucky enough to be caught in the middle.
