I don't know whether to be grateful that nothing repaired stays fixed forever or frustrated. One the one hand, it keeps me in a job, on the other it means that there's an awful lot of running around Zion.

I thought this might be an easier way to find out where I'm needed. I can do repairs to cooling and venting systems in your homes and have some training as an electrician. A lot of the major repairs come through dispatch but if you happen to realize your system isn't working as well as it ought too but hasn't reached failure yet, I can help out with those during my free time.

Hi, Blight. Somehow my vents are hooked up with my neighbor's so whenever she takes a shower all of the steam comes directly into my apartment. It's getting the ceiling mildew-y and her shampoo smells like rotten skittles. Is this the sort of thing you might be able to fix?

That sounds exactly like something that I can fix. I might need a good time to come over for both you and your neighbor. Do you know if she's experiencing the same issue on her end?

I don't know. Is there a way to do this that doesn't require me to talk to her?

If it's just on your end, it should be possible.
Let's set up an appointment and I can take a look.

That would great. If she finds out this is happening and annoying me she'd probably try to prevent you from fixing it.

Ah, well then maybe we should figure out a time when she's at work? Or otherwise distracted?

I'm not sure what she does, if she works at all. The only time she's ever not in her apartment is when I'm coming or going and then she's directly outside her apartment, lying in wait for me.

Maybe she's a homebody then? I'll come take a look either way. You don't really want your home to have a smell that makes you feel sick.

I guess that's one word for it. Maybe you should talk to her, you might have some luck. Just don't mention it has anything to do with me, obviously.

Have you been doing this sort of work long?

I've been doing it for the past year and a half. I was unplugged three years ago, but I had some learning to do before I could be trusted with a tool kit.

No tech in your Matrix, or just not a technician personally?

No tech.

It was one of those fantasy based dragons/elves/magic kind of places.

Gotcha. Half my crew is from one of those, I think. I like the magic part, but dragons never turn out to be as much fun as I'd hoped.

I find most vicious animals trying to kill you by breathing fire at you are rarely fun.

Does that word mean something to you?

Where I'm from, people use it as a sort of curse. "Get that blighted dog off the bed!" for instance.

Oh, they use it that way where I'm from as well.

It's also a sickness, a taint. And it's also what they call it when an archdemon rises and terrorizes the world, not that Tevinter has ever really cared about that.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure if we're talking about it the right away. It would probably be more correct to say 'where I thought I was from.' Archdemons aren't real, after all.

Tevinter. Archdemons. Where you thought you were from was Thedas.

That's true. Is it the same for you?

Yes. I was a Grey Warden, once. Which is why I have to ask: why in Maker's name would you name yourself after the Blight? Surely that wasn't of your parents' choosing.

To remind myself of what happened there and to remind me that the machines are to blame.

It's easy for me to focus on this life. If I did that fully, I'd probably convince myself to forgive and forget. I don't want to do that. I don't want to forgive them.

You make it sound like you think the machines are evil.

Evil is a pretty loaded word.

At the risk of you ending this conversation, my family is from Tevinter. Many who are still plugged in would apply that label to us without knowing us.
